Mountain tea - Macedonian tea - Sideritis scardica – improves appetite, fights colds and flu

Mountain Tea (Lat: Sideritis Scardica) also known as Macedonia tea is an annual herb that grows in the high mountains of the Balkan Peninsula. It is known in folk medicine for its healing properties.
The leaves are long and layered that sharpen to the apexes. The flowers are yellow and arranged at the top of the plant.



This herb blossoms from the end of May until August depending on the altitude.
It can also be cultivated.
The tea has a distinctive fragrance and flavor and is best for enjoyment.

Medicinal use of  Mountain tea 

Mountain tea is a highly appreciated herb in traditional medicine. The tea is made from the above-ground part of the plant which has a specific pleasant smell and taste. It is used as a universal remedy against flu, colds, infections, bronchitis and strengthening the immune system. It reduces the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke , nd heart attack, and helps with diseases of the prostate, kidney and urinary channels. Scientific studies have shown that it is rich in antioxidants and can be used for prevention in the fight against cancer. This pretty much used herb in our region is still used as a prevention treatment of digestive organs, against bloating, diarrhea, asthma and diseases of the liver and bile.
