Hens and Chicks Plant (Lat. Sempervivum tectorum) - protector of your home

Hens and Chicks Plant (Lat. Sempervivum tectorum - Houseleek Plant, liveforever plant) in Macedonia is called (Чувар куќа) which means - protector of the home. It is a perennial plant, which has juicy and thick leaves and the stem can reach up to 40 cm.

The flowers appear at the top of the stem, reddish in color.
Hens and Chicks Plant grows on wet rocks, in the mountains, but also can be grown as a decorative plant, in the houses along the walls and courtyards.
It contains malic acid, formic acid, tannins, resins, and mucilage.

Medicinal use of Hens and Chicks Plant

In folk medicine and phytotherapy, the leaf juice is used. It can be used as a balm for wounds, burns, inflammation of the eyes and ears. Some say it can be used for skin cancer, and for internal use for inflammation of the throat, fever, bleeding and against tumors.
