Cornus mas L - Cornelian cherry, European cornel or Cornelian cherry dogwood

Cornelian cherry, European cornel or Cornelian cherry dogwood - Cornus mas is a deciduous shrub with medium or high growth up to 5 meters.

The bark of the trunk is grayish, it has oval leaves, slightly curved with typical strong veins. The dogwood’s flowers are yellow and bloom in early spring. The fruit is oval-shaped and red.

Medicinal use of Cornus mas L

Cornus mas brings a beneficial effect on the mucous membrane of the intestines, and it helps in the treatment of diarrhea and other intestinal diseases. Juice and jam may be made of the dogwood’s fruit juice which is especially beneficial for children.
