Lady's bedstraw (yellow bedstraw) - Galium verum is a herbaceous perennial plant of the family Rubiaceae. It is a low scrambling plant, with the stems growing to 1 meter long. Its leaves are closely latent, placed in vertebrae. The flowers are small and in flourish inflorescences.
The herb has a pleasant smell, similar to the smell of honey. It grows in dry and damp places, along roads and abandoned fields. It is widespread across most of Europe, North Africa, and temperate Asia from Israel and Turkey to Japan and Kamchatka.
Medicinal use of Lady's bedstraw - Galium verum
In traditional medicine, the overhead part of the herb is used. Its flowers have a diuretic effect and are therefore used to trea the urine organs. It improves the appetite and the resorption of food, strengthens the body from severe diseases and exhaustion.
It is also used with liver diseases, problems with pancreas, against pallor, and against bleeding from the nose.
In the past, the dried plants were used to stuff mattresses, as the coumarin scent of the plants acts as a flea repellant.
