Oregano – Wild marjoram - Origanum vulgare

The Oregano – Wild marjoram - Origanum vulgare is a perennial herb, growing up to 70 cm high. The leaves are oval; flowers are small and in a pink-purple color and arranged on the top of branches.
The Oregano has pleasant odor and taste; it is widely spread growing on mountain meadows, pastures and along the roads. As a crop plant is cultivated for the essential oil produced of the flowers that is extensively used for perfume-making.

Medicinal use of Oregano

This plant is used for treating bronchitis, asthma, gastritis, diarrhea, gastric diseases, intestine diseases, as well as for nervous system relaxing. Marjoram stimulates the secretion of digestive, sweat and bronchial glands, improves the appetite and has antibacterial properties. Marjoram tea is used for expectoration, flu, cold and fever and it has an anti-cancer effect.
