Tikvesh Lake and Polog Monastery - Photo Gallery - 04.05.2019
Polog monastery (Полошкиот манастир) is located in the southeastern part of Macedonia near Kavadarci city, on the border between the Tikves and Mariovo regions. Its position was once high above the left bank of the Crna River, opposite the Polog village, after which the monastery got its name. After the creation of the artificial Tikvesh Lake (1964 - 1968), the village no longer exists, and the monastery can be reached by boat through the lake.
Tikvesh Lake is an artificial lake on Crna River 12 km southwest of Kavadarci, and 3 km south of the village of Vozarci. The lake was created in 1968 by partitioning the canyon of the river and constructing a 104 m high dam. The dam is built from stone with a clay core whose length is 338 m.
On the shore of Tikvesh lake, near the villages Resava and Brusani, there are many boats, some of which offer transport upstream to the monastery. Depending on the type of boat, the journey takes about an hour and a half in one direction.
